Frequently asked questions

What happened to Mint?

Intuit shut down Mint in March 2024 after acquiring Credit Karma. All Mint user data was deleted. Former Mint users have been looking for alternatives that offer similar functionality — spending tracking, categorization, and budget goals — without the privacy concerns that contributed to Mint's decline.

Is PennyRa a good Mint replacement?

Yes. PennyRa covers Mint's core features: transaction import, automatic categorization, spending breakdowns, and budget goals. PennyRa adds what Mint lacked: no bank login required (CSV import only), AI-powered spending analysis, multi-currency support, and international bank compatibility. It also costs less than YNAB or Monarch Money.

Does PennyRa require bank login like Mint did?

No. This is PennyRa's biggest difference from Mint. Mint used Plaid to connect directly to your bank account, which required sharing your login credentials with a third party. PennyRa uses CSV import only — you download a file from your bank and upload it. Your credentials never leave your bank's website.

How much does PennyRa cost vs YNAB and Monarch?

PennyRa's free plan covers 100 transactions/month. Plus is $2.99/month and Pro is $4.99/month. YNAB costs $14.99/month ($99/year). Monarch Money costs $14.99/month ($99.99/year). PennyRa is 3–5x more affordable with a free tier, which neither YNAB nor Monarch offer.

Can I import my Mint data into PennyRa?

If you exported your Mint data before the shutdown, you can import it into PennyRa as a CSV file. Go to Settings > Import and upload your Mint export. PennyRa will parse the categories and transaction history automatically.
